GREENBELT, Md. (WUSA) -- A local man pleaded guilty to owning and to helping distribute child pornography online, federal officials said in a news release Tuesday.

John Shutt, 65, of Bowie, pleaded guilty to running an illegal website where users could post pictures of child porn, and grab images and videos as well, federal officials said.

"Subsequent forensic examination of the (his) computers and hard drives
revealed approximately 1,483 images and 32 videos of child pornography.
During the search, Shutt admitted that he had downloaded and possessed
child pornography for over 15 years and also traded images with others
he met online," officials said.

As part of Shutt's plea agreement, he has to register as a sex offender. He also faces up to 20 years in prison.

Shutt's trial is set for September 29th.
