In recognition of President Abraham Lincoln’s birthday and in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, Harold W. Nelson, Brigadier General, U.S. Army (Retired) will be speaking at Sandy Spring Museum on “Lincoln – Lessons in Leadership,” Saturday, Feb. 11 at 11a.m. The lecture is free to the public.

 Emergency Alert System Established in Prince George's County

Prince George’s County citizens and residents will now be able to receive emergency notifications and alerts via email, text message, and pager through a new alert system, NotifyMe Prince George’s, which launched, Wednesday.

Administered by the Prince George’s County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, NotifyMe Prince George’s, allows enrolled county citizens and residents to be informed of real time events taking place such as amber alerts, severe weather, school and government delays and closings, severe traffic, utility interruptions and emergency preparedness measures.

Policies Available for Children 18 and Under With No Exclusions for Preexisting Conditions

January is open enrollment for CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield and Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of the Mid-Atlantic States individual health insurance policies for children.  During January, these two companies will offer policies for children age 18 and under with no exclusions for preexisting conditions.  This is an opportunity for those families that do not have access to family policies to find coverage for their children.
