County Executive and EDC Host Information Session for Business Community on EDI Fund

The following information was sent to us by Christy A. Lipscomb:

Business owners interested in learning more about Prince George’s County’s $50 million Economic Development Incentive Fund (EDI Fund) are invited to an information session on Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at Eleanor Roosevelt High School, 7601 Hanover Parkway, Greenbelt, MD from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III, and his Economic Development Team will discuss the EDI Fund and its application process.

As part of his FY 2012 Proposed Operating and Capital Budget, Baker sought and received County Council approval for a one-time investment of $50 million to be set aside as a multi-year commitment for the EDI Fund, with $7 million earmarked for FY 2012. The goals of the EDI Fund are: expansion of the County’s commercial tax base, promotion of major development and redevelopment opportunities, Transit-Oriented Development (TOD), job retention and creation, and growth of key industry sectors.

“I proposed the EDI Fund to support and grow small businesses in Prince George’s County,” said Baker. “With this tool, we will be able to grow our economy, provide jobs for our residents, and increase our tax base to pay for valuable services.”

Information session participants will learn how the process works, how long it will take and who should apply.
