Bowie serial armed robber arrested

BOWIE, Md. (WUSA9) -- Bowie Police Department arrested a suspect who was involved in three armed robberies within the month of September in Bowie, Md., police said.

Police made the arrest on October 17 after they had determined the name of the suspect. The three robberies happened on Evergreen Parkway, Midwood Lane, and Laurel Bowie Road.

The suspect pulled out a handgun, and stole items from the victims in every incident, authorities said. Police were able to recover the items stolen from the victims, police said.

MISSING: 16-year-old girl from Bowie

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Authorities need your help locating a missing 16-year-old girl from Bowie.

Dominique Grines was last seen in Bowie on September 20th, 2014 and it is believed that she may now be in Washington D.C., the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) said.

Grines is described as being 5'6" tall and weighing about 220 pounds. Grines has black hair and black eyes, the NCMEC said.

Grines may be going by the name of Daviella Neal or Nique and may be in the company of an adult male, NCMEC said.

Anyone with information regarding Grines whereabouts is asked to call 1-800-THE-LOST (1-800-843-5678).

Serial child molester to spend 92 years in prison

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (WUSA9) -- A serial child molester will spend 92 years in prison for three different child sex abuse convictions, a judge ruled Friday.

Micahel Brochu was sentenced to six years Friday for abusing a young boy at a community pool in Bowie in 2011. The six year sentence comes on top of prior sentences totaling 86 years.

Micahel Brochu was convicted in July of three counts of third degree sex offense for abusing a young boy at a community pool in Bowie in 2011.

From June through August 2011, Brochu molested a young boy in the showers of the Whitehall Community Pool in Bowie approximately seven times, officials said.

Man in hospital after serious Md. crash

BOWIE, Md. (WUSA9) -- A man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, after a vehicle crash that happened on Route 50 in the area of Route 197 in Bowie, Md. Saturday night, according to Prince George's County Fire Department.

The accident happened westbound on Route 50 in the area of Route 197 in Bowie, authorities said. The victim had to be extricated from the vehicle, according to authorities.

Route 50 westbound in the area of Route 197 was closed due to the crash.

Bowie man stole $350K in car loan scheme

BOWIE, Md. (WUSA9) -- A Bowie man stole more than $350,000 in a car loan scheme from June 2010 to August 2012.

Duane Akuffo, 28, applied for car loans at various credit unions with an array of fake documents. He forged fake pay stubs, information about applicants and he even lied about the type of car he was buying each time, calling it a 'luxury car,' the court documents stated.

Once Akuffo was approved for the loans, he would take the money as share it with nine others who helped him and default on the loans.

"Relying on the materially false representations, the credit unions issued loans totaling $357,356 to the applicants," officials said in a news release.

Former Metro Access driver guilty of sexual assault

BOWIE, Md. (WUSA9) -- A former Metro Access driver accused of sexually assaulting a passenger in April 2013 was found guilty on Friday.

Ezra Porter faces a maximum sentence of 20 years for the incident. He was found guilty of a 2nd degree sex offense.

On April 19, Porter was driving a female passenger home from her job when he pulled over and threatened to harm her if she didn't take off her pants, according to officials. Fearing for her life, the victim removed her pants and Porter sexually assaulted her.

Porter drove the woman home and reported the assault to police.

During the trial, the state was able to corroborate the victim's story by using the GPS on the Metro Access vehicle. It showed the deviation from the normal route and that the vehicle was stopped for the approximately four minutes the victim claimed.

Sentencing is set for September 5, 2014.
