In a statement, the university said it "does not tolerate hate speech and promotes diversity as a core value among students, faculty and staff." ​

Bowie family OK after large house fire


BOWIE, Md. (WUSA9) -- A family in Bowie is OK after a Wednesday afternoon fire caused extensive damage to their home.

According to Prince George's County fire officials, the fire appears to have started in the garage of a home in the 100 block of Jewett Place.

Firefighters also rescued a dog from the home, officials said.

The family will be displaced.  ​

BOWIE, Md. (WUSA9) -- The owners of a Prince George's County bathroom restoration and remodeling company say they've apologized, asked for help from law enforcement and reached out to local media in an effort to stop what has become a one-sided war with an online army.

Beginning on October 20th, supporters of a YouTube provocateur known as "Thunderf00t" have been bombarding Porcelain Tub Restoration of Bowie with negative reviews on Yelp and Google, mocking emails and phone calls.

Man critically injured after being hit by car in Bowie


BOWIE, Md. (WUSA9) -- A man suffered potentially life-threatening injuries after he was hit by a car in Bowie Thursday night.

A Prince George's County fire spokesperson tweeted that the accident happened near the intersection of Annapolis Road (Route 450) and Laurel-Bowie Road (Route 197).

The man was transported to a nearby hospital in extremely critical condition.

Bowie man arrested and charged for child porn


BOWIE, Md. (WUSA9) -- A Prince George's County man was arrested Tuesday for child pornography in Bowie, according to the Maryland State Police.

David Carl Tranberg, 40, of Bowie, Md. was charged with four counts of disturbing child pornography and four counts of possession of child pornography, police said.

Tranberg was arrested without incident after a month long investigation. Police obtained a search and seizure warrant and arrested Tranberg on scene.

31-year-old man shot and killed in Bowie


BOWIE, Md. (WUSA9) -- A 31-year-old man was shot and killed early Saturday morning in Bowie.

Prince George's County police say Terrence Demond was found at 4:25 a.m. Saturday on the 1200 block of Patriot Lane with a gunshot wound to his chest. Demond was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives say they don't believe this was a random act and are working to identify suspect(s) and a motive in the case.

A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and indictment in the case.
